I confess. I have been Chili Peppered. Thank you, Tony Spezio!

A friend sent a couple in a one-to-one swap, and it took me way too long to tie one on the end of the tippet.

Fish really do like that thing! I was recently fishing a pond with a good quantity of rainbows up to four pounds, and they were just smashing it. You could see the younger fish swirling around the fly trying to get the courage to take it. But the big fish were laying deeper and waiting for it get there! The fly finally disintegrated, trailing red thread and dangling the broken grizzly hackle by one end of the wrap.

This one is tied on a 3XL Size 10 hook equivalent to a #10 Dai Riki 710.

What are the extremes of hook sizes that you know Chili Peppers have been successfully fished? I am interested in tying them both larger and smaller, but don't want to be wasting materials on sizes that don't work?

Also, during Chat, DonO suggested that maybe the trout think the Chili Pepper is a dace. That would be a possibility in the water I was fishing, as it holds dace. Any other ideas on what the fish think this fly is?

Thanks,

"Today I'm a dog. Tomorrow I'll probably still be a dog. There's so little hope for advancement."
