Tripod has  just added one more annoying feature, a side bar that opens everytime you open a Tripod page that you'll usually want to close.  I've got both Tripod sites and Geocities sites, and just make pages and link between them when i need a feature that one supports and the other doesn't.  Originally I went with Tripod way back when because there ads were always G-rated.  Before Angelfire was bought by Lycos and Geocities by Yahoo, you could have x-rated ads pop up.  Since  my pages are often meant for my students in my college chemistry courses I opted for Tripod.  Most free web hosting sites are now pretty strict about content of pages and ads on their servers these days, so it is isn't much of a problem.
