Once upon a
time there was a stupid little man and his name was Nick. He made an insane
decision and took a break from his fly-fishing. Today his head has started to
"untwist" (a little bit) and he has picked up his tying and bought
some new fishing gear. Held back by his
financially situation he bought a complete set. Rod, reel (+ extra spool), 2
lines, leader, backing, tube.
The set was
$100. Out of curiousity, he checked out how much it would cost if bying it in
parts...which came to a total of $250. He didn't hesitate for
long.
But now he
is wondering about something which might require help from more
experienced guys in this particular area:
FLY ROD: RON THOMPSON MONTERRA
(5/6)...
...HAVE ANY OF YOU EVER TRIED
THAT???
What I need
is reviews. As many as possible. And most important: As HONEST as possible. If
you know about it and think it's crap, don't be 'kind' and say "it's a quite
good one". And another thing: Please don't think in comparisment with your own
rods. I'm already sure what that result would look like. What I need to
know is if it HAS some quality, not if it is something that you would
chose for yourself.
The reason
I'm asking you is that I'm not sure if I'm able to give it a "fair trial"
myself...and here's why:
* It's
the first rod after a several years break.
* I
have nothing to compare it with.
* My
technique is a bit rusty. A $1000 Hardy might seem
like crap to me, just because it was hard to use..."Beginners
syndrome".
It's a
critical decision. If it actually IS OK, then it's just me...and it will come
back in time. But if it's NOT, then I want a new one as soon as possible. I
don't want to keep using it, get my technique adjusted to it...just to be
back at the same point when I buy a new one.
I'll
appreciate all help I can get on this one!!
/Nick
