I'm getting good results from Lefty's Potomac River Popper. Use yellow estaz and
yellow squirrel tail. A good picture of the critter can be found at:

I follow Lefty's advise and don't paint the cork. The natural works as well as
painted. They catch bass and gills real good.

Use a bent hook, size 8-10, designed for poppers. Corks are available at Michaels.
Shave off a side of the cork, and cut a groove in the flat place with a hack saw
blade. Make sure the eye of the hook is level with the bottom of the flat part. Glue
it to the hook; tie in a tuft of squirrel tail for the tail, wrap a bunch of estaz or
other sparkly chennile around between the cork and the tail, and bang! You've got a
great popper. Bigger poppers catch bigger fish, but you know what, I've caught pretty
good bass on a size 8.
