Yes, Ashley, the aftershaft is the small feather found behind the body feather plumes. A lot of people refer to these as filoplumes in error, particularly on hex nymph patterns. I believe the filoplumes are the small hairs you find on the skin after the feathers have been plucked. I think they are sensory organs for the bird. Steve Schalla
