Kevin,
Try midge Wingers (the feathers at the nape of the Winger neck).  You'll
love them.  They do come in black centers, laced white (just a fine fringe),
down to size 26 or so.  Easy to tie and durable.  Can do upright wings, or
spent.

I have to admit that I rather like the split wing on dry flies.  It is a bit
hard to get the hang of.  If you are having a hard time of it Ronan try
using Mallard wing feathers rather than starling.  The peices you cut are a
little longer and therefore a little easier to work with.  Give it a bash.
Sometimes when I'm lazy I will leave the wing out but I have to admit when I
reach into my fly box I tend not to select these flys.  I always go for the
one with the wing.  Maybe it's just look but I prefere this type of fly.
