Well, I just got the latest black JV hackle and it is to die for..absolutely wonderful..winds like silk and lays exactly as one would like. In questioning him I learned that in his genetic breeding he has worked to develop the special stem that makes it work so well. So..forget that starling..use the JV hackle.
