I missed the original posting about the hot glue. I have used hot glue to make salmon eggs for the Salmon River area of New York. I just use food coloring to color the glue you just mix the food coloring then dip the egg in it after you have formed it. It works pretty good..

Hot glue is avaiable from linesend in vaious colours.The bouyancy all
depends on
the fly.
