>Friends tell me a small golden salmon fly is also used - unsure as to >what that is
Hi, everyone! If it is a "salmon fly" as in "stonefly", then this is a type of "Improved Sofa- pillow" style quite akin to a "yellow sally" (or yellow stimulator?) with a palmered hackle from hook-bend all the way to the thorax and another on a thread-based cone-head, bright-and-deep yellow chenile or rope-dubbed body, pink tag, and pale-elk-hair wing. Not sure how "small" is small, but 18 to 22 works great over on the east coast for browns... but then I use an upturned eye on mine. If it is a "salmon fly" as in "atlantic salmon fly", I'm clueless. The Golden Salmonfly is a "standard" in my box, and now (thanks to a gracious gift from Jimi), they have real elk instead of bleached deerhair! Of course, big horn sheep works quite nicely also, though I use it more for spinning. In any case, that's the pattern as *I* know it, please feel free to correct me if I'm totally off... Hope this helps, and tight lines, Pete ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand!
