The politics of the big shows is something that really detracts from them, if you are on the inside, not a visitor. There's a lot at stake and a few unscrupulous self-promoters. Although few and scattered, they make their presence known. That being said, the other side is the small local show. Comradery and friendship are important because there is nothing at stake but having a good time. That's what will bring me to the Sow Bug. 'Fantasy Flies' is all about having a good time. In my day-to-day flyfishing life, the 'big names' are the names of the vfb, not those of the big fly shows. People that 'frequent' my life are JimmyD, Deb, Jimi, Bob, Jeff, Joyce, Tony, Byard, Murf, and the dozens of others (too many to list) who post regularly on the vfb. I work out of my house, on a pc, so the vfb is frequently up and is a part of my day. So to attend a show where I'll get to meet and hang out with these people would be something really special. The Salt Lake City Show is remembered because I had so much fun with Jerry Goldsmith (a vfb'er and guru), I got to meet and get a picture of me with Tony (a big shot and a vfb'er), and I met Ginger Allen (another vfb'er and celebrity). Everything else will be forgotten, but these things will remain.
