Late quote today as I have been out fishing. It was time to see what the new
rod was capable of. I loved it. Suddenly the fly landed where I wanted it to
land... with a line as straight as I wanted it to be. Casting into the wind
wasn't a problem anymore. And it was christened with a nice Rainbow which
took the fly in a way I've never experienced before. It came from beneath
like shot from a gun, took the fly and continued up in the air. When I
hooked it, it was probably 50 cm's above the water. Too bad it took me this
long to buy it. Now the season is running to an end... :o(
But to the quote:
"A good fly-rod is worth every cent you pay for it -- and more; also it should be said that good tackle of any sort is not only its own reward but is absolutely essential if you would have the best of the sport. Shoddy tackle conduces to careless work on the stream and consequently to poor success. On the other hand, good tackle tends to interest one in its proper handling, both in casting and also fishing the flies, and as a result the angler finds his interest and success increasing rather than otherwise." (From 'The Fine Art of Fishing', by Samuel G. Camp)
