Hello fellow VFBer’s, This didn’t make it through the first time so I will try again.
Well we just made it back from the Cape a short while ago. I’ve cleaned my gear and can’t wait to turn in and get some sleep. We had a great time with the gang. There are a lot of fish there this weekend. Friday we all started trickling in slowly. We didn’t fish… just set up our camps and then sat around exchanging fishing tales. I had the kids all day Saturday while Steve went out fishing so we went to the playground. I stopped at the local Orvis store and then took the kids to lunch and back to the playground. Stephen DiCerbo finally pulled in after I had the fire going back at camp. The rest of the gang came back from fishing shortly afterward. The guys on the boat did well. They all caught fish... Stripers, Blues, dogfish and even a false Albie!! We had another great night swapping fish tales, flies, lies and food.
It rained pretty hard that night. Sunday morning the fire wood was wet. I went to start the fire with lantern fuel. ☺ Luckily they knew not to give me too much of the stuff. I still have my both my eyebrows that’s always a plus. I’m sure they could hear the “puff” two camp sites down. If not they could hear me laughing and Steve chewing me out. Byard…. That stuff works better than lighter fluid.
Sunday I went out for half a day. A few guys went to the local flats. We took Anthony’s boat and dropped off Ashley, Wayne and Mel on the islands to fish and I headed out in the boat with Jim and Anthony. It was pretty rough. I had a tough time getting my sea feet steady enough to cast the fly rod well. I know Stephen will blow my cover so I’ll tell you my two dog fish were caught on a jig. It did “fly” through the air when I threw it though. We all got back to camp around 4:00pm. We took a trip up to Nauset Anglers to get some fishing reports and check out the shop. Steve and I had to leave to bring the kids home for school tomorrow. I really want to go back next weekend and join the gang but I don’t know yet if we will be able to.
We didn’t see your baby blue jay yet Byard. Bill brought peanuts for him just in case he shows. We did find a whole lot of buck tail clippings in the campsite next door to them. Hmmmm?? They thought they had found another fly tier. I’m wondering if it was remnants of Byard and Howard?! We also had the cutest pine squirrel with an attitude hanging around our camps. I saw him once high tailing it out of my camp with his mouth full of Banana bread. What a squirt!
I met a couple new friends, at least I can now put a face with the name, and I got to see some old friends again. I ate very well and laughed really hard. We even got our annual warning to keep the noise level down even with out Byard and Howard there!? Well I hope we get good reports for the rest of the week from the Cape.
Regards,
Deb
