I might be wrong here, since I don't know the author very well. But to me
this seemed to be about tying ON a fly (to the tippet). It doesn't matter if
you have been tying for years and years and tie your flies perfectly, even
though blindfolded and with one hand on your back. When the fish is rising
in front of you and you have picked one out of the box... that simple little
knot won't be as simple anymore.

That sure sounds like me, Nick. That first attempt
with my 2 hams was quite the experience, wondering
what the heck I had gotten myself into. The flies
still don't look a lot better, but it sure seems
easier after tying 1000 or so over 4 years. -Jeff
