I just came in from the most awesome site I think I have ever seen. I was in
the shop and noticed 2 of our cats setting looking straight up outside the
door. I went out to see what they were looking at. In the sky above were
over 48 Red Tailed Hawks, the most I have "EVER" seen at once. They were
everywhere flying, gliding just hanging on the wind above me. I stood there
and tried to count as best I could without doubling, I counted 48 on the
conservative side. I have never heard of hawks migrating and am not sure
what would cause this, but it was truly an incredible site. I happened at
about 1:40 PM Thursday 9-30-04

I just counted another 75 in a seperate group. When I look to the north west
I can pick them up as dots, wait and watch and count them as they fly
directly over headed south east. This is not counting what I may have missed
while I was in the house, or what may still be coming.

That's their annual migration Jimi. Around here they head south early in September. There are mountain spots here where you can watch them (all types of hawks and eagles) ride the thermals by the hundreds. They glide from one updraft to another, sometimes without even needing to flap their wings for many miles. Neat sight!
