I have been attending the sow bug for the past 5 years, maybe six, but there
are many different thoughts about which river is best.
Here is my slant on it. because I chose to stay on the White at the Wild Cat
Resort, I tend to fish it more if the generators are not running. If they
are, normally by noon the flow is back to normal on the Norfolk. It is
really not that far or long of a drive to fish there. They both are
outstanding fisheries. Never have I fished and seen so many Browns logged up
in a pool. (was drifting in Tony's drift boat) in the White. They were not
taking anything that day because of the shad pieces having gone through the
generators. But I have had days where I caught respectable Brown, cutts and
Bows, all three in one hours time. Then of course there have been times when
I was skunked. I have seldom seen Tony skunked. I have fished the White with
Tony, many hours and days. He always out catches everyone. I have caught
fish on all kinds of dries and nymphs. The go to fly has always been the
Chili Pepper.
Where I live in Eastern WA I have one of the best fisheries in the world but
always enjoy my trips to AR and the sow bug. It is not all about the fishing
down there, it is the people it attracts. Just a lot of like minded friends,
gathering together and sharing our mutual addiction. Tyin/lyin/fishin/eatin.
The water temp is way too cold all year long to wet wade. Either you must
have waders, preferably chest and shoes to handle very slick, large round
rocks. I rely a lot on my wading staff. Boats are available from the Resort.
Many of us have fished the 7 miles from the resort up to the dam and though
am not a guide, consider myself fairly knowledgeable of this stretch of
water. It is excellent trout fishing.

If both rivers are not fishable due to water level there is always Crooked
Creek for warm water fishing. One of my favorite spots using dries and 3 wt
small rod. From very small Longears to some very respectful Small mouths,
gills, pop eyes and some I can not name.

I will fish all the waters in the area. If possible I might suggest going
early and staying a day or so late. I always arrive on Sat before, leave
Sunday or Monday after. This gives me more time to fish.
