Boy what a great day. We were at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum at 12:30 p.m., and left at 6:00 p.m. to get over to the Rockland House for the Hall of Fame diner at 7:00 p.m. In between we watched the last Sat. special guest fly tyer of the season tye in the museum from 1 to 4 as we do most every Sat. during the season, and then attended the induction ceremonies for this years newest members of the Hall of Fame from 4 to 6. It was a great way to end the season, so-to-speak, as it is each year at the CFFC&M. At diner we sat at Arthur Stoliar's table, who's now deceased wife Joan was one of this years inducties. Arthor insisted that we join him at his table with family and friends, and even insisted on buying our diners. We were honored. I guess it was his way of saying thanks for all the years we have been friends, and for all that we meant to Joan, and of course what she meant to us. Two of her greatest contributions to the fly fishing world here, were her leadership with two projects, Trout In The Classroom, and Project Access. We have never missed a Project Access day since 1992, and my wife and i were the very first chaparones (sp?) for the kids the first year of TITC in '98 and continued to be on the TITC committee at TGF every year since, continuing to help with the kids each year, especially during "Culmination Weekend." That's the weekend when the kids come up to the Catskills and release their parr into the rivers and take tours of the reservoirs, the hatchery, and learn to cast, tye, and identify insects and test the water samples, etc., etc. National TU has just recently taken over the administration of TITC because TGF can no longer handle the load. In '98 we had 4 schools, we have since gone to over 50 schools. It's quite a load of work now. Joan passed in 2000, and we continued to administrate the project since her passing, but it has just grown out of our ability to handle it. It was so wonderful to see her get her due. TGF has always been the source of seed money for any comming on board new school as the project grew, providing funds for a tank, and the start up batch of eggs, etc. There were 5 other inducties, but it would take way to much "memory" to fully run down all that, here. Surfice it to say, that Bob Jacklin was one of them, and we took home....(by way of a silent auction) a very beautiful print framed with two flies that had tied also in the frame. His contribution to the cause. Someone else got a box of white, gray, and royal Wulff's that he tyed and also donated. "What-a-guy!" mark......
