Todd,
Swan Lake, up by Bigfork. There are a few in Flathead Lake, but harder to
catch. You may/may not be able to catch them on flies. Most are caught
trolling 'Wedding Ring' lures and Swedish Pimples. Catch limits are really
high, and most folks up there smoke them as they are small fish. I tried,
but they won't stay lit.

Check in with the fly shop in Bigfork. I've met the owner, and he can tell
you if flies are going to work, and when. (Maybe some other places, too,
like up in Whitefish.)

Just tell him the owner of the 'Baits Motel' sent you. If you go up to
Whitefish, check in with Stumptown Angler and Lakestream fly shop.

For large kokanee, try the Green River below Fontinelle Dam and Flaming
Gorge in Wyoming.

Subject: [VFB] Kokanee in western MT?

I was wondering if anyone knows of a place where I can observe (and maybe
catch) any koke's doing the spawning thing in western MT. I know guys fish
for them in Colorado, but I have not been able to talk to one person since
moving to Montana that has been able to help me. Thanks!
Todd
