Similarly the original Partridge and Orange spider pattern was tied with a body made of real silk. Totally different when wet again to the modern nylon floss bodies which stay the same colour when wet.

BTW: Why did Sawyer choose Chadwickas 477? After a lot of test? Or because it was simple in his wife's Sewing box? Maybe she tied the first pattern?
Isn't it mostly a question of availability why we choose a specific material?
