Hi everyone, I was tying up a batch of Catskill flies and wanted to know... in the Light Cahill pattern, it was my understanding that the mallard-flank wing was split and figured-8ed. However, a friend of mine recently showed me his, and the mallard-flank is tied in a pseudo-parachute/ clump fashion (without splitting the wing clump, but not wrapped around the base as for a parachute, nor figure-8ed). Now I'm sure the trout don't mind much (he's caught #s on it), but my curiousity has me asking:
What was the original recipie? and What benefit might one pose over the other?
Just curious for your input. Tight wraps, Pete
