Getting confused Henk. I see 70 & 140 Denier Ultra thread and above it 8/0 & 6/0 Uni thread but no Gudebrod on LinesEnd. How would you rate each or are they too close with variables considered to pick a definite favorite?

UNI 6/0 is 135 denier, according to Jean-Guy, and 8/0 is 70. Gudebrod 6/0 and 8/0 are not bonded, like UNI. They feel about the same size, close enough for my purposes anyway, and are also polyester. Strength (i.e. breaking strain) feels similar too. Difference is that the Gudebrod thread, being non-bonded, can be flattened and split more easily than UNI, which is an advantage in some applications. I use both, and have no real preference, they're both good tying threads in my experience.

I've recently found some polyester sewing thread that may be a good substitute as well (www.amann.com), and I know Guetermann, another German mfx of sewing thread, has a product that is very similar to UNI. Haven't been able to find the exact info on the Guetermann web site, but Amann has all their specs right there. I have seen the 20000 m Gutermann spools though and even have 2 tying spools with the stuff, courtesy of Alan Bithell, a pro tyer from the UK.

Again, probably more than you wanted to know ;-)
