Folks, for anyone going to travel this weekend, please be careful.
I have been monitoring the scanner today between necessary tasks to keep
us warm and have water. Lots of rollovers, multi car pile ups, cars in the
ditches and jackknifed rigs. And this is SE NM. Currently it is 22 outside
with a wind chill of 12. We have had over 5" of snow since 4 this morning
and the roads are a snow packed icy mess. It is supposed to get down to 14
tonight and tomorrow only up to 24. As I hear it, this same stuff goes all
the way to the east coast.
Please, if you are in this and going someplace for the holiday, put some
extra blankets, water and food in your vehicles. Drive slow and safe. If you
should slide off the road, please, don't run the engine to keep warm. If the
exhaust is plugged you could die of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Please be safe,
Jimi in frozen NM
