" Trout evoke an image and foster a dream; they are precious and beautiful, seldom easy to catch and rarely abundant. Therefore, in fishing, all masters choose a rapier instead of a broadsword, smile scornfully at larcenous guides who suggest such ill manners as foul-hooking or tickling, and release more than they kill.  To insult such a magnificient creature by abusing it either physically or by use of an uncouth name would be sacrilege.  . . . Trout fishermen tend to use gentle, respectful nouns and adjectives when describing a treasured catch, whil black bass anglers are likely to call a trophy "a real hawg!"

"Being able to read trout streams is just as valuable to a fly fisherman as the ability to read a defense is to an NFL Quarterback."
