When it comes to thread why not use Kevlar thread for all your general fly patterns. Its too heavy/thick (about 3/0 or more) for most trout patterns and the more expensive GSP (UNI_Cord) is as strong at about 7/0 per Paul Marriner's UNI guide from Lines End.
