I sent a note to Mark off-list telling him that the O.ofW. would at least make his lab smell better. Here's his reply.

are you impugning my lab, Allan???  (Most of the time
it just smells a bit musty.)  Actually, it's going to
smell much worse come Monday. A couplee of students
have opted for an experiment that uses pyridine for a
solvent.  Even tough they'll be doing it in the fume
hood, enough will escape out into the general lab air
to make it smell very unpleasant.  for those who don't
know, pyridine is a very stinky aromatic amine
compound.  I'd much rather smell trieathylamine
(rotting fish smell) than pyridine!!!
