The white hairs are a lot softer than the darker ones. The black hairs are the stiffest and as the hair gets lighter in color they become softer. I use the black hairs for the tails on the Mayfly. Weaving on the lighter colored hair will generally break the hair. For wrapping on a hook shank, I select a dark and a light hair. Not necessarily a black and a white .

Where do you find light colored hair on a Moose mane? Do you have

Alan,
on the mane you can find some white, tan, and blond hairs, though the dark hairs are more prodominant. If you cant find any white hairs, I would tend to belive that it has been dyed.
