Brad, where do you live? You need to get together with some other fly tyers in person. Contact a fly shop in your area, or a TU chapter, and get together with some tyers and they will help you get everything you need. Or at least everything for the first few years. One thing you need to know is to buy when you can and don't wait. Of course this is after you have made the decision to really become a fly tyer and stick with it. But once you've done that, buy, buy, buy and buy somemore. When you can afford it of course. Get it NOW..........another chance may never come along....depending on the material(s). Go to the fly shops and ALWAYS look in the cheapo bins for things they have drastically reduced the prices on. Very often you will find hooks that way, and lots of other "goodies." Things you can really use, but which for whatever reasons are just not a hot seller. Get to know as many other tyers as you can and swap things with them. Go to shows as much as you possibly can. Take as many lessons as you can possibly afford. And buy as many books and videos and dvds as you can get your hands on. And join a fly tying club ASAP! Check out ALLLLL the web-sites for fly tying......and there are a LOT of them. And never be afraid to ask questions, no matter how dumb you may think they are. We've all asked dumb questions before, don't worry about it. Good luck. mark.....(willowhead) www.JazzMarkGallery.com 607-498-9944

Brad, I'm thinking that by imitation the meaning is a
look alike natural feather. With the Yellow Flicker
being a protected species the idea is to take a
feather from an unprotected bird and shape and dye it
to resemble the real thing. Of course, I may be
completely off base. -Jeff
