The little "V" lengths of carpet fibers make great wings on flies. My son was a carpet installer and would bring me scraps of carpet in different shades. You can pull out the little "V" shaped pieces of carpet yarn and tie it on the hook right through the "V". A square carpet sample will give you a lifetime of wings. Go to a carpet store and get their discarded sample board.
Three lifetimes of wings there.
