Let me tell you a little story about things for tying materials.
Some years ago I was tying at the east coast shows. At a show in Maryland, I was tying my Epoxi Minnows. For the back belly and tail, I used strands from the multi colored mylar dusters sold in dept. stores for a buck. Clipped the strands from the middle of the duster, that gave me about three inches in length. These were tied in at the head of the fly, laid back over the back and under the belly, tied off at the back of the fly. The tag ends made the tail. (Those in the "inshore" swap will be getting one.) I kept the duster out of sight in my lap. When asked what I was using for the back, belly and tail, I would tell them it was a special material that I found as I would lift the duster off my lap. That got a good laugh and Walmart sold out of dusters.
Two weeks later, I did a show in Pa. I was tying the minnows again. A couple of guys came by and asked if I was using that special stuff the vendor down the isle was selling. I told them no, I was using the duster. One told me what the vendor was selling was about 6" or 8" long tied in the center with a tie wrap. On my break, I stopped by his booth and asked where he got the long strands. He was promoting it as a new tying material. He looked at me and laughed, said" the same place you get yours," Just untwist the center wire and pull out the long strands. He was getting 2.50 a hank
So much for new material
Tony
