To any vfb'ers that might just use hooks and beads: This is the page for the $130 Orvis organizer, called the hook tower: http://www.orvis.com/store/product_directory_showcase3.asp?dir%5Fid=1273&group%5Fid=1289&cat%5Fid=5436&subcat%5Fid=6474&bhfv=7&bhfx=7,0,19,0&bhqs=1
(If you can't pull it up from here, go to www.Orvis.com and go to fly fishing, flytying, accessories, benches & bags.) I have one of these, but I don't like the back-side access for half of the compartments, and I ran out of space in no time. I also don't like the Orvis boxes because the entire lid opens, not just one compartment, therefore a spill could be disasterous. So what I need is an expandable system that I can add to at any time as the inventory grows. It's also way expensive for what it is. When I got mine, it was only around $45. or so, but maybe I got a deal- I can't remember. After the emails on beadery, I did some searching, and found these: http://www.whimbeads.com/usb.html These racked up would make a great small hook or bead-head organizer. &... http://www.jdr-be.com/embroidery-cases-bags2.htm (see about half-way down the page) (there's also a caddy above and below) There's also the stacking screw-jars, and some other types of organizers that may or may no be of benefit to you. I have 'some' woodworking abilities (for the bases of my giant flies), so building a wooden caddy for these will be easy. Also, I like the fact that I can customize the caddies to fit in nooks to make best use of space, something that the Orvis Hook-tower doesn't do well. And, all of the drawer contents would be visable with no back side compartments. This could be one of our little VFB projects where everyone benefits from the numbers here (like the co-op). Byard could buy the compartments wholesale and sell them to us for what we could buy them for (or less), which would be a continuous sales item for him. ( This would also keep the craft-store competetion down.) Then those with woodworking abilities, like Jimi and others, could build custom caddies for them to fit dimensions given by vfb'ers that want them (or you could build your own). I'm sure that after time, some caddy designs will pop up that other vfb'ers will take advantage of. Byard could/may? also carry some of the other caddies on Linesend (or order them as needed). Just some ideas... Comments???? Byard??
