I agree with your comments on that Iain. I tie stillwater flies and the most notable increase in catch was using a Viva with JC eyes. It just adds that "something" to the fly and it deffinateley affects the response to the fly. Gentle takes on a standard pattern will become smash takes on a JC version.

I tie it as a single , a double, a treble, a tube and a waddington.

Single's and doubles get a pair of JC eyes as normal.

Trebles, tubes and waddingtons get three evenly spaced eyes so theat at
least one is always visible to the fish.

I have caught more fish with JC than without. same fly, same size, same
dressing except for the JC.
Printed plastic, or feathers with painted eyes have never made the slightest
difference to the taking qualities of the flies.
