How about just drilling a bunch of 1/4" holes partway thru a piece of wood.
You could then stack and clean a large clump and split it into the holes.
Nice thing is you could easily restack the hair anytime by "bouncing" the
holder.

Subject: [VFB] Holding hair

I have a question for those of you who have used an Edgin Hair Snare. I
have
one and I like it just fine. But I'd like to set up a little assembly line
to
hold clumps of hair that have been cleaned and stacked. I could do this
with
about thirty Hair Snares, but that would require many dollars and I'm
looking
for a cost-effective alternative.

So the question is, what cheap little gizmo would you use to hold clumps of
hair securely, without crushing them? The hair clumps are about 10
millimeters
in diameter, almost half an inch.

One thing I've discovered that may be helpful to you is that when tying in a
clump of deer hair, sometimes it's overkill to secure the clump in the
middle.
You end up with a flared bunch that's far longer than needed. That is, when
trimming you actually cut off more than half the flared length.

Instead, if you secure the clump at a point that's at one quarter its
length,
you can cut the whole clump at the midpoint before flaring and thus get
another
clump to tie in. Cuts your hair consumption in half. See if it works for
you,
cause it's working fine for me.

thanks,

Mark
