I use the round fluorescent light with the magnifying lens in the 
middle--believe mine is a +4..the kind one gets in the needlepoint shops. 
IIt has worked for many years and I"ve had to upgrade the magnification 
(again, you can get interchangeable centers at your nearest needlework 
shop).  I find that if I set it about 8 inches from the fly, that there is 
plenty of room for my hands and once set, it stays put..works great for me.
