Started with worms and salmon eggs Jimmy. Would use catapillers, grubs, anything just about. First decent rod was a spin/cast. You know, thumb on the button. Then a "real" flip bail. Never did have a bait cast/level wind. Fly is where it's at though. Just something about casting the line and NOT the weight on the end of it. mark.....

If we aren't too much of a purist to admit it, many of us fly fishers started out as a bait fisherman, either cane pole and a worm as a boy, or casting / spinning rod. There's an old quote that I can't quite remember about former bait casters having a leg up on fly fishermen who never bait fished. Maybe one of you will remember it and share.
