Ian,

Thanks for replying. Awhile back I received a small (very) pack of penguin
feathers from a friend. These are aresome and would have lots of uses in
flytying. I've checked the net many times and I can't find a source (like a
zoo) that will give up molted feathers, much less a pelt or portion thereof.
So I'm hoping that down there, closer to where they come from, you may be
able to come up with some feathers, a pelt, or even an old stuffed museum
bird that has seen its better days. Maybe one died in a zoo and they will
sell the pelt? I'm mostly interested in the emperor penguin, but one the
next size down ( I think the King penguin) would do well, too. The little
guy's (Adelies, Rockhoppers and such) feathers would be too small for many
of the applications I have in mind, and the neck feathers of the big one
would take care of any small flies.

>From my research, I can't find anything on their status, and in talking to
people at zoos, they're not on any endangered species list, or even
threatened species list. In fact, I found one place that says they're
over-populating because of too few leopard seals and other predators.

So this is the favor I'm asking. Can you check on the availability of
Emporer penguin feathers, pelts, or stuffed birds down there? If it winds
up that they're protected or trade restricted, I'll understand. At least
I'll know why they're so hard to come by.

Thanks,
DonO
