Foam Swap flies arrived here in Sweden too. Lots and lots of goodies in
that bunch. Nothing but goodies, to be more precise. I got them the same day
as I had the fly-tying class, so I brought them with me and showed them and
guess if that was a success! Most are beginners and the rest are just
Swedes... so, of course, they hadn't seen anything like it before. "Donald
Duck flies", "Science Fiction Flies", "Flower Power flies", "Clown Flies"...
many were the names for the more familiar term 'Foam Flies'. They also gave
names to a few of the no-tags. "Nightmare Bug" (big black beetle), "Hairy
Banana" (orange hair-winged hopper)... and "Wacky Wobbler" (Wiggle Bug?).
All these "Wow"'s and "Look at that"'s changed the course of the night. I
decided that parachutes will be tied next week... because this night's theme
was changed to "NEW AGE NIGHT". We tied my own swap fly, the Foam Wing
Crippled Suspender (using both fly-tying foam and packing foam). Then it was
time for an emerger with a polystyrene ball... and judging by their looks, I
would say that stockings weren't something they were expecting to see as a
fly-tying material. ;o) Then, after a caddis larvae with V-rib body and a
water boatman with Swiss Straw back and rubber legs, we called it a night...
and before they left, they sure made it clear that this night had been a
very interesting one.

So, thank you Rob and all the Foam Swap tiers for setting up that amazing
display. You sure showed them that fly-tying isn't just about feathers and
hairs. Now they got to see that it includes factors like fantasy, creativity
and artistery too.

About those no-tags:
Blue foam damsel with flash wings... Name? Tyer?
Hair-winged hopper with orange foam and yellow body... Name? Tyer?
Giant(!) black beetle... Name? Tyer?
Green Wiggle Bug (not sure)... Name? Tyer?

Last, the tag on Buck Hall's Spider also has a foam Lady Bug attached. Is
Buck the tier of that one too?

Happy Eastern to all of you!
/Nick
