Story of my life Tony. When we do get out I tie one on for Theresa, Amanda ties on another and I try a third. They drag the fish in and I get skunked. But no mater what, I have a good time watching them catch fish. Jimi
Let me tell you a story about this. I took a friend up to the C&R area at the Dam. He is a person that has everything done right. We suited up and when he went to tie on a fly, he found that he had no fly boxes with him. I dug deep in my vest where there had been no sunlight for a long time, pulled out a box that had not been opened for at least a year. Luther asked "what fly should I use". I picked out a "dirty yellow" looking fly of about a size 14 I think, and handed it to him. I really don't remember what it looked like. I placed Luther on a run and headed to a little cove I like to fish up there. Luther was a beginning trout fly fisherman. He had been flyfishing for bass and brim when he lived in Florida. Before I got to my spot, he had a fish on. When I got to my spot, he had another one on. I tied on a Sowbug but was not doing well on it while Luther was catching several trout. I yelled back to him "don't loose that fly" I need it for a pattern. I will cut it short here, when we were ready to leave, Luther had C&R 22 trout. I had only caught 4. As I got to where Luther was, he started to wade towards me dragging the fly behind him as he was reeling in. Well you guessed it, he had a hit that broke off the fly. To this day I have not been able to really remember for sure the size or how it was tied. I do remember it was kind of a dirty yellow color. That was two years ago.
