The first time it really struck me as unusal was on Fishing Creek near Lamar, PA. I had been doing okay on a #16 mayfly (either a female Hendrickson or BWO) when the hackle got ripped by its latest victim so I unwound it, clipped it off and now fished a few casts with my newly formed "spinner". A look or two but no real interest. Besides, the fly was really beginning to fall apart. I had about 20' of line dragging while trying to find another and ended up with a nice little 13" bow on.
