Mark,
in the old days Samon were a very common fish here in the Rhine (Rhein in german). Due to pollution we lost this fish during the 50th and 60th. Since a lot of years different organisations tried to reintroduce samon to the Rhine system.
Today we have salmon returning to the Rhine system and they try to spawn in some tributaries, one is a bit south of Cologne, They 'try to spawn' means, that the authorities usually try to catch the in advance, collecting the eggs and breed them seperate. Not really a stable population, but increasing. Hopefully in a couple of years I have a salmon river some 5 miles from my home.
We have seatrout returning as well.
Best
Rene

VERY cool Rene.....when i use to spend a lot of time in Europe, it was
always shear torture to see all the incredable rivers and not be able to
fish. There just wasn't ever any time for such things. Switzerland, Italy,
Germany, France, Spain, were especially hard to deal with when travelling
the countryside(s). Some of the rivers were just incredable and looked VERY
fishy. The guys always asked why i strained my neck so hard to stare at
them, lol. One alto player we had for a few years actually did love to fish,
but he spin fished. He could occassionally actualy find time to go fishin'
too. His responsibilities were on the bandstand, mine were 24 hours a day.
Even when i slept my room phone could ring (and it often did) and who knows
what could be a problem. Anything from food poisoning, to having been
arrested. I sure miss those days, lmao. mark.....
