I gave up lead a while ago. It kills loons and ducks and isn't too good for us fly-tyers either.
I have been stripping down steel twist ties from grocery stores and using that wire to wrap and weight flies. It will rust after a while, then you need to go back to the vise and start over. Coating the wrapped fly with varnish or head cement delays this. I think that it is a small price to pay.
