Its late autumn here so starting to cool off (well cool for here any ways.. 10 -16C .50 - 60 F) , but there is still fishing to be had at a reservoir a couple of hours from home. I wanted to get there for first light, and in the fog and dim light missed my turn off and about 30 mins of fishing time whilst I navigated my way back.

By the time I eventually hit the water there were still some trout tailing in the shallows. I tied on my sneaky go to lake fly and snuck along the bank to have a cast at the first fish.. got too close (30ft) and spooked it.. I decide on a 40 cast for the next one... cast to the swirl , watched the leader.. it started to move ever so slowly.. struck into a little weight... after a few minutes landed a half pounder brown.(12 incher) .. the little guy wouldnt quit so it took me a while to get him in...

moved along the bank and cast to another one... leader moved.. I struck to nothing.... this put him down so I moved furhter round the bay and found another...same story.. long cast watch wait and lift.. another half pounder brown.. by this time wind and sun were up and the trout retreated to the depths...

for the next few hours the wind blew and on these lakes.. when the wind blows the insects (midge, tiny stoneflies) wont hatch and the trout go deep somewhere.

Later in the afternoon I fished a tiny tree lined bay.. roll cast city...and hooked a couple of nice rainbows mooching around the reeds.

BY about 2pm the wind started to drop and a midge hatch came on on around at the steep treelined side of the lake.. the lee side.. so the fish were rising well out... time to put my roll casting to the test... after about 15 mins or so I managed one 40+ foot cast... just near where one rose.. waited and watched for a few mins. The leader moved , I struck and I had a fiesty little brown hooked in the lip... . by this time it was 2:30 and as I had a long drive home (2 hrs..) i was expeced home at 4:30... I waved good by to the Lake and the wedge tailed eagle watching me from the nearby tree and headed home...
