I go every year as close to the 15 of July as possible. That is when the Yellowstone river opens and the Calibaetis hatch is in full swing on the Lake. Since I'm out on the Lake the crowds don't bother me. I always fish the same place, (which also has the biggest crowds) , Bridge Bay. I like fishing in the Bay because the hatch is very steady there and when the wind blows it almost always blows you toward the shore. And if you are lucky and get fish with the hatch you can have the most spectacular fishing of your life. Check out my home page for some pictures of my best day there several years ago. Dean was with me and got me into the fish. He left then next day and for the next two days I was catching a fish almost as fast as I could cast.

The bugs are ALWAYS there but sometimes the fish aren't. But it is always worth the trip. Last year, for example, wasn't as good, the few fish were closer to the shore and the shore fishermen had to advantage, but I still caught enough fish to keep me happy. It is my favorite trip of the year.

The weather in July is usually very good. Maybe an afternoon thunderstorm, but you will be doing all of your lake fishing from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
