What would you recommend for bass bugs and saltwater flies? I'm looking for thick feathers w/ pronounced curves to splay out to the sides. Is there a Whiting version?

I've used strung "Bass/Tarpon/Saltwater" hackles but there's no curve and "definition" - for lack of a better word.

Cheers,

Kev

Subject: [VFB] Trip report...

Too bad my trip report is NOT about fishing, but it is about tying.

Just got back from Lisbon/Moab again, and all the rivers and creeks that I
saw were still pretty blown out by run-off. Later this summer I hope to get
with Rob and do a trip somewhere.

On the return trip I stopped in at 'The Farm' in Delta and picked out some
awesome saddles and capes. Steve Schweitzer was finishing up photographing
some capes and saddles for the web home page, so guess who has his pick of
these these now? :o) Steve's doing a great job there running things,
giving Dr. Tom a lot more time to work on the birds.

I was again on a hunting mission for speckled ('flecked' in some jargons)
and I wasn't disappointed. Got some great Hebert saddles and capes, and a
half dozen CD'L saddles. I sorted through 100's of capes and saddles to
find them, since they still do not segregate these out. Two of the CD'L
saddles were died brown, and two ginger- awesome looking- will make great
speckled Platte River Specials besides all the tailing feathers. Got a
bunch of clumps of just tailing feathers too (scapula spade feathers of
CD'L), in ginger and shades of yellow through brown. I also picked out a
beautiful coachman-brown dry fly neck, and a Hebert saddle (cream-colored)
with hackles from 14" to 17" long. I found two capes of speckled dunn dry
fly hackle. I already have some of these, so if anyone wants to buy these,
let me know.

I should be headed back in a month or so to do some more training at the
plant site, so if anyone has anything in particular they would like me to
get from Whiting, let me know and I'll send in a shopping list beforehand
and they'll hang on to it for me. Otherwise it will be going out in orders
soon. Next trip I will be on a hunting mission for spey, jungle cock,
saltwater, and cree.
