This talk of never using a reel enters an interesting series of
questions (in my mind): i'm building a 6'6" 2/3wt rod soon (when I
have a spare second on the weekends and such, and after i get the
ferules and guides purchased). I've only ever fished with large-arbor
spey reels on spey rods (6/7 wt up to my 14wt) or 4/5 or 5/6 weight
reels on my 7' to 9' rods...
Any suggestions for how to load line onto this rod once it is built?
I'm clueless on this low-weight stuff, honestly, and the 4/5 weight
reel feels WAY too heavy for the rod, even with 3wt line on it. Does
a 2-weight line exist, and from whom do you suggest purchasing it
from? Also, do the rod-builders in the room have suggestions for
guide number and size? I've seen six different charts, all having
conflicting details... Lastly, do you have to use a 2-weight reel to
hold the 2/3wt line? I'm guessing it makes sense for ballance, but
can't locate a 2-wt reel in my <$100US price range. Suggestions?
Well, i have to get out the door for my cousin's wedding... I'll be
on-list, but won't read replies until late sunday evening
Thanks in advance, and tight lines,
Pete
