Lawd a murcy, as Grandad would say.
I'll bet that particular bamboo would grow just fine if similar conditions were found here in the states. Florida is unlikely to be an area conducive to this but Pennsylvania has some areas which might work.

It has been tried in Florida, Louisiana, Georgia and Texas, It will grow but it is not the same. The bamboo used for making bamboo rods comes from a small area in China. It is known as the Tonkin Provence if China. The basmboo is known as Tea Stick Bamboo or Tonkin Cane. This bamboo grows on the windy mountains and from what I understand this is what gives it it'd strength.
