Tony,

While I applaud you on sizing up to 5x, why not use 4x florocarbon?  I found it works as good as 6x for visibility and when I'm fishing a #12, 6x gives me problems.  Of course, you are the expert but why not try it?

Also, if you ever get up to my cabin, there are big carp just in front of the cabin in addition to small and large mouth bass and bream.  Open invitation.

Subject: [VFB] Fishing report yesterday( Long)
Date: Sun, 10 Jul 2005 06:51:41 -0500

Toby hooked up and broke off.  and when I hooked up that was it. Snap went the tippet. I made a cast and the line went tight, snap again. This time it was just the fly. Tied on another Al's fly, made the cast and thought I had snagged a rock. Not so, snap. I was using 6X tippet so I tied on some 5X tippet  Made a cast and picked up a big Gill. On the next cast I hooked up again and this time the freight train took off. I raised my rod and it just made a stop. There was s big boil and a roll then the line went slack. I made another cast and it happened again. Hooked up to a freight train. I played the fish thinking it might be a big Smallmouth till it about spooled me. I had about that time decided it might be a Carp. It headed down towards Toby and he got to see it. It was a large Carp. Toby tried to net it several times, it was too big for the net. He finally got his hand on the tail but could not hold on to it. The Carp made a run up creek and almost spooled me again. It was touch and go for a while thinking I about had it tired out. Worked it in pretty close and got to get a good look at it. About the time I thought I had it ready to land, it made a run and a roll and the line went slack. The sz 12 hook was totally straightened out.
