Hi VFBers...

List traffic has grown quite a bit lately so I thought I'd offer up some basic VFB List Etiquette suggestions before it exponentially gets out of hand.

Very simply...

Firstly, we all no better than to flame someone publicly...and you are all to be commended for following this rule of thumb. It is rarely a problem.

Secondly, NO advertising is allowed on this list. Now the specific rule states that no advertisements are allowed if you may have financial gains. But think about it for a minute. This list is financially supported by Line's End...not by Cabelas...not by Bass Pro...not by Hunters...not by eBay. None of those other companies offer any support to the VFB List. They don't pay for advertising space, so they don't deserve advertising space. There has been way too many of these mentions/links/ads lately and they make me mad! I would very much like to see them end!

Now to a touchier subject. Each VFB post is not a personal email to "you". To that end it is not necessary for "you" to reply to each and every post. Maybe a resident VFB statistician can jump in here and tell us what the result would be if all 500 members subscribed to this philosophy. Please be aware that each and every post that you make is going out to 500+ VFB subscribers. Typically a good percentage of those are uninterested in learning that "you" agree with a certain concept that has recently been presented. There is no room here for posts that fit the "me too", "thanks for the reply", "I agree" type responses. If you really feel compelled to comment in those terms, please respond directly to the sender and not to the list.

A good rule of thumb is...before hitting the send key, ask yourself...do the other 500 VFBers really want to hear this...is it important? By all means reply onlist if you are offering a different view on a subject, but to just say "I agree" or "thanks" just increases list traffic unnecessarily.

Finally, paid memberships keep this forum rolling. There are over 500 subscribers to this list...currently there are 47 paid up members...that's less than 10%...that's sad! If you have been on here for more than a couple of months and enjoy the daily exchange than you should seriously consider offering some financial support by becoming a paid VFB Member so that the list can continue. I can only subsidize so much.

This message is not directed at any one individual...we go through transitions all the time. My intent is only to keep the list focused and to insure that it remains active for many years to come.

keep tyin'...byard
