Chuck, A bellyboat is an inner-tube stryle boat- some round, some horse-shoe shaped.
Pirogues are 'cajun canoes'- lots of styles. The cajuns paddle their pirogues around the dense swamps, but can pole them in open marshy areas. I've seen them as short as 5' long and about 15" wide up to 15' long and 30" wide. A flat bottom and very shallow draft is what I remember as key for getting around in the swamps and marshes. When they built them with squared fronts and backs, we called them skiffs, but I don't know if that was technically correct.
