"The thjing I go by most is temperature. When the water of any stream
gets warmer than sixty-eight I have no faith in my ability to take
trout, no matter what the weather conditions are. This is despite the
fact that I have, in a few instances, taken some good trout with the
temperature of the water as high as seventy-four degrees. For this
reason I always carry a thermometer with me. If the temperature of the
streams we happen to visit is unfavorable we pass it up and go to some
other stream where it is favorable. We have found this a worth-while
rule to follow and it certainly saves a lot of fruitless fishing."
