Chris,
I usually do not use those winding checks. What I do to get a neat
transition from the grip to the blank, is to wrap the 'Winding Check'
with thread. Form like the head of a fly on a very thick hook (Now it's
tying reletaed <G>). Soak and coat it with epoxy. You can play with
colos and style, and even mix colors.

Uh....to keep this fly TYING related....uh....I used thread for the rod
