Dave
I would love to see pictures of your flies. I referenced Pryce Tannatt
first because of the great hook templates in the book. The thing I'm
looking for is a template with "spey hooks". The spey flies in Pryce
Tannatt appear to be tied on Salmon irons. In fact as I look at them now
they are identified as "rational" irons. I'm wondering if in fact there is a
true "spey hook" or if they used long shank salmon irons to tie spey
patterns? Which might be the reason they made their own hooks if they
weren't readily available.
They have some of these long shank irons on Plate X in the PT book.
I have found a reference as I said to "dee hooks" in the Rare & Unusual book
and they do have a very different bend in comparison to the salmon irons but
I can't find a reference to "spey hooks".
Thank you for offering to take pictures of your flies. If you can't get
them on the VFB please send them directly to me.
Regards,
Deb

Subject: Re: [VFB] Spey Flies???

Deborah: I think I have some old spey flies and Dee flies I would be
willing to photo and post on this list if you would like. I figure Pryce
Tannatt pretty well knew what the story was on these fine flies.
These flies are from 1870s - 1900s
